The PARQ launches LIVE GREEN LIVE WELL campaign, putting integrated waste management into practice, reinforcing its sustainable development credentials

The PARQ, the mixed-use development integrating smart workplaces and lifestyle retail under the concept of “Life Well Balanced”, built on its commitment to create new sustainability standards in working and living with the launch of the “LIVE GREEN LIVE WELL” campaign under the concept of “Towards a Circular Economy”. The PARQ joined force with Thai Beverage Recycling (TBR) to encourage tenants and visitors to engage in integrated waste management practices, from waste collection, separation for disposal, recycling, and turning food waste into organic fertilizer.

Mr. Kamolnai Chaixanien, Executive Director of TCC Assets (Thailand) Co., Ltd., said that “The PARQ is designed to be a healthy, highly efficient, and cost-saving green building  in accordance with LEED standards, as well as to promote health and wellness of occupants and visitors according to WELL standard. This is in line with Frasers Property’s – The PARQ’s development manager – recent announcement of its official commitment to be a net-zero carbon corporation by 2050.”

“The waste crisis is a national agenda which deserves our urgent attention. According to the Pollution Control Department at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the total generation of municipal solid waste (MSW) in Thailand has increased dramatically in the past 10 years. In 2019, Thailand generated over 28.71 million tonnes of MSW, of which as many as 2 million tonnes are plastic waste. Up to 27% of MSW in Thailand was disposed of improperly, leading to several polluting effects on the environment. At The PARQ, we have placed importance on waste separation processes since the project’s inception. Recently, we launched the LIVE GREEN LIVE WELL sustainability campaign centered around our integrated waste management system in the building. This encompasses design and allocation of space to accommodate waste sorting and installation of equipment and facilities for efficient waste management, allowing for easy reuse of waste through recycling and transformation of food waste into organic fertilizer. Immediate benefits of the campaign are to increase the amount of waste being sent to recycling facilities and back to the manufacturing process, reduce carbon dioxide emission, as well as create a healthy environment for the well-being of all building users. The campaign encourages building tenants and restaurants at The PARQ to sort waste into 5 categories: food waste, general waste, plastic bottles, glass bottles, and aluminum cans, which helps cut waste management costs,” added Mr. Kamolnai.

LIVE GREEN LIVE WELL campaign at The PARQ is devised based on the belief of a circular value chain, leading to the concept of “Towards a Circular Economy”, comprising the following elements:

  • Building infrastructure design to support sustainable waste management – dedicate space to accommodate suitable waste management facilities, consisting of 3 main areas: Dust Drum Compactor, Food Waste Composter and Waste Separation Room for Recycling
  • Dust Drum Compactor – compress waste into a smaller size and eliminate liquid in the waste, enabling ease and hygiene of waste handling for the municipality. The compactor is a closed system which is easy to clean and maintain, with odor control and less expense on pest control and disease carrier animal prevention systems.
  • Food Waste Composter – utilize biotechnological innovation in digest food waste and turn in into fertilizer within 24 hours with built-in disinfection system. The solution is energy-efficient, reduces greenhouse gas and helps reduce food waste by 80-90%, and produce compost for use in planting areas at The PARQ, totally replacing the use of chemical fertilizer at the project.
  • Waste-to-Donation Program to support Environmental Foundation – In addition to the waste separation that the project operates, The PARQ encourages tenants and visitors to sort waste and make packaging waste more valuable by converting it into donation. Simply bring three types of recyclable waste – clear plastic bottles, aluminum cans, or glass bottles to drop in the sorting bin at retail zone on the 1st floor near West exit gate. Every piece of recycle waste counts, as The PARQ will match the donation to the Forest in Our Hearts Foundation, which was established to educate the younger generations on how to sustain green areas such as forests and biosphere reserve spheres in Thailand.

Join us in creating a greener world. Start with yourself, simply put your trash in the correct sorting bin and you are already doing your part in helping to reduce the catastrophic global climate change.
