Eka Global on national roadshows in 2021,
empowers SMEs with longevity packaging

Eka Global, a leading longevity packaging producer, announced significant success in extending shelf life by three times through the use of its innovative longevity packaging, according to its recent study conducted on 10 SMEs. Backed by this study, the company will hold nationwide roadshows in 2021 to support Thai snack and dessert producers and enhance their competitiveness in the global market.

Mr. Chaiwat Nantiruj, Group CEO of Eka Global, reiterated the company’s commitment to helping Thai SMEs in food and snack industry, including Thai desserts which have short shelf life, growing their businesses. In overcoming this business limitation, Eka Global invited 10 SMEs nationwide to join it product test project to see if Eka Global’s innovative longevity packaging can extend their product shelf life. SMEs joining the project include producers of fried potato chips, fried banana chips in vacuum package, chili paste with fermented fish and herbs, curry puff, crispy pork floss, Foi Thong (egg yolk thread), healthy cake, crispy noodles with lotus root, Thong Yip, Thong Yot, tofu brownie and crispy mushroom snack.

The test on the 10 food products yielded highly satisfactory result. In some product categories, the shelf life has been extended by three times after using Eka Global’s innovative longevity packaging. According to the test, shelf life of Met Khanoon Thai dessert (Ban Foi Thong brand) has been extended from currently three to 10 days, crispy noodles with lotus roots (by Onrada Menu Wichit Charit Thai) from seven days to 20 days, tofu brownie (by Soyar Vegan & Organic Dessert) from three to five days, Foi Thong (by Rin Khanom Thai) from four days to 12 days, Japanese Cheese Cake (by K.Panadda) from 10 to 19 days, curry puff (by Puffy Curry Puff) from four to 12 days, crispy mushroom snack (by K.Ubonwan) from 1-2 days to 13 days, and chili paste with fermented fish and herbs (by Pla Som Mae La-ong Paed Riew) from seven to 20 days.

Chaiwat noted that throughout the past 12 months when the world was living with COVID-19, consumers behaviors have been changed and people have adopted new normal living. This has strong impact on business practice. He foresees that in 2021, the Modified Atmosphere Packaging Process (MAP) which is an innovative food preservation technology will become key for SMEs in extending shelf life for fresh food and lowly processed food products. Thanks to this new technology, Thai SMEs will have more competitive advantages provided by longer shelf-life which can reduce problems related to high inventory, decayed products and distribution areas.

“Despite good quality and taste, short product shelf life ruins it all. Consumers have to buy and eat it quickly before it expires. This also means loss of sales opportunity and limitation to market expansion. Our longevity packaging and MAP technology will close all these gaps. On the other hand, they also open new opportunity for SMEs to grow their business and reap all the opportunity arise in the new normal era,” said Chaiwat.

He added that the successful test has encouraged more SMEs to join Eka Global’s test program. As many SMEs are located in the provinces, the company plans to hold roadshows to all the four regions next year. Eka Global will cooperate with partners, like local universities which have food packaging testing facilities and equipment, to go to see SMEs at their production facility to conduct the test, providing them with greater and easier access to the test.
