This year, it will be held under the theme “CPHI at The Heart of Pharma” and sets to create a new phenomenon in the pharmaceutical industry in Thailand and the region with interesting showcase of pharmaceutical innovation and technology. We hope this event will lift Thai pharmaceutical industry to the international standard.

The exhibition will provide business opportunity and enable Thai manufacturers to increase competitiveness in the global market. The event will generate and inject more income into Thai economy in the second half of this year, and at the same time enhances the pharmaceutical industry’s capability to drive the country’s economic growth.

This event will support the creation of national pharmaceutical security, which will drive Thailand’s economic growth in the long run,” said Rungphech.

Ms. Lalana Setasuban, President of the Thai Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (TPMA), added that the association’s key responsibilities are to promote and support pharmaceutical production that meets with international standards, to lift Thailand’s pharmaceutical industry standard, and to ensure sufficient supply that meets with local demand. The association also serves as a key platform for related persons to exchange ideas and point of views on issues related to the pharmaceutical industry. It also encourages members to participate in local and international exhibition like the “CPHI South East Asia 2023 that will provide members with an opportunity to have access to new technology, opportunity to sell more products and to attract funding from domestic and international investors.

Mr. Surachai Ruangsuksin, Chairman of the Pharmaceuticals Industry Club, The Federation of Thai Industries, added that the Pharmaceuticals Industry Club has played an important role in strengthening and increasing the productivity of Thai industries in order to become internationally competitive. This will support national economic and social development. At the same time, the club has the bargaining power to ensure the best benefits of Thai industries. CPHI South East Asia 2023 is the central platform promoting cooperation, information exchange, business and trade development, as well as investment at both domestic and international levels. This will significantly help growing and strengthening Thai business sector, which will be ready to become the medical and healthcare hub. In the long run, the industry will enhance medical security for Thailand.

Ms. Parichart Cleawplodtook, Expert Class 10, Sales Division, The Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO), noted that Thailand’s healthcare system has high potential and is internationally recognized. Thailand was ranked the world’s 5th top country with outstanding healthcare service and products. However, locally produce pharmaceutical products are limited despite high production standard and global recognition for its quality. One of the main reasons is that Thailand has to import majority of raw ingredients from other countries. To strengthen national pharmaceutical security, it is important for the country to reduce dependence on import raw material, strengthen local capability in downstream and upstream pharmaceutical production, increase self-dependence through research and development, technology, innovation and efficient production. The focus should be in R&D and production of API and innovative medicine, especially biopharmaceutical products. GPO has taken many actions, such as developing pandemic vaccine and cooperate with the private sector in the research and development of such necessary pharmaceutical products.

Mrs.  Sirinan Thumtimthed, Director of Expert Centre of Innovative Herbal Products – Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR), noted that the government has promoted comprehensive use of local herbs in order to boost domestic herb utilization. The center, therefore, encourages herbal research activities, including extract, quality control, and efficacy and safety study, using international standard testing measures.

TISTR realizes that one of the major challenges involves registration of the products, medicine, cosmetics, medical substance. TISTR, therefore, improved the non-clinical study lab to meet with OECD GLP standard, making the study more reliable and traceable. Entrepreneurs and manufacturers can use the test result from this lab to support their product registration in and outside Thailand. In addition, when the test result is verified, the manufacturers do not have to conduct the second test when they export their products to other countries. New medicines have also been developed using local herbs and under international standard manufacturing process. Such development can directly address Thai consumers’ needs while adding value to those products which results in higher export value and economic value in the long run.

The essence of the event lies on the opportunity for participants to exchange knowledge and build a strong network among people in the pharmaceutical and related businesses. The event received full support from over 300 leading organizations throughout the Southeast Asia region, such as Thai Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association, Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR), Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration, Thai Industrial Pharmacist Association, the Food and Drug Administration of the Philippines, Food and Drug Administration of the Philippines of Malaysia, and pharmaceutical manufacturers association in the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, South Korea and China.

International experts will also join the event to share with visitors their insightful information and opinions in terms of market demand, regulations, and interesting measures that directly address consumers’ demand.
