Energy Innovation Huge Success at
SETA 2022, SOLAR+STORAGE ASIA 2022, And Enlit Asia 2022

Asia’s power and energy technology trade show and conference, SETA 2022, SOLAR+STORAGE ASIA 2022, and Enlit Asia 2022, held from 20-22 September at BITEC ended on a successful note. The event, organized by GAT International Co., Ltd., and Clarion Events Pte Ltd., under the theme of Accelerating ASEAN’s Energy Transition to Achieve Carbon Neutrality, welcomed more than 11,000 attendees during the three-day event. Apart from innovations in power generation, transmission and distribution, hydrogen, solar & storage, visitors also gained extensive knowledge in the energy sector from conferences led by a line-up of 350 global speakers – from both government and private sectors to push towards the Net-Zero strategic goal.

Mr. Kulit Sombatsiri, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy, said in his speech that it was an honor and a privilege to see close co-operations from the public and private sectors and other organizations on an international level to set the net-zero target on decarbonization. Although Thailand still relies heavily on fossil fuels, namely coal, oil, and natural gas, it is striving to move forward to achieve the Carbon Neutrality goal by 2050 and the Net Zero Emission goal by 2065 through intensive policies and measures. Thailand is preparing its National Energy Plan 2022 (NEP 2022) through its 4Ds Policy (Decarbonization, Digitalization, Decentralization, and Deregulation) to achieve the goal of reducing Global Warming and attract investments in clean energy and renewable energy, in order to create sustainable energy production in the future.

Professor Masakazu Toyoda, Chairman & CEO. Japan Economic Foundation (JEF) and co-event director of SETA 2022 and SSA 2022, stated that it was an honour to participate in this event on behalf of the Government of Japan. As the world is moving toward a decarbonized society, Sustainable Energy is one of the most prominent technologies all human beings seek. The question is how to balance environmental protection and economic growth, especially in the Asian region, which still has the potential for rapid economic growth in the Post-Covid19 era. At the same time, accelerating decarbonization will open doors to creating new businesses, such as renewable energy and energy-saving.

Japan aims to be carbon neutral by 2050 and is now in the Green Transformation (GX) period where the Japanese public and private sectors will work with the international community, Asian countries, in particular, to achieve a carbon-neutral society. Thai and Japanese private sectors also work together to achieve carbon neutrality in the BCG economy model—such agreements, for example, are the installation of PV, and solar panels, on factory roofs using products from Japanese manufacturers. Furthermore, Thai and Japanese companies are now studying the possibility of co-firing hydrogen and ammonia to generate clean power, hoping that this will lead to a new way to drive the economy together.

Ms. Wuttaya Hnunbhakdi, Managing Director of GAT International Co., Ltd., revealed that the power and energy technology trade show and conference, SETA 2022, SOLAR+STORAGE ASIA 2022, and Enlit Asia 2022, had a good response from participating sectors and opened its door to more than 11,000 visitors, which exceeded the target set. The event has presented tremendous business opportunity and investment in the clean energy space particularly in solar projects between large-scale users, installers and EPCs.

Apart from the international trade show and exhibition and leading technology and solution providers showcasing the latest technological advances, visitors also had an opportunity to participate in international conferences and conferences in Thai with participating speakers including speakers from PTT, Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA), Electricity Authority of Malaysia (TNB), Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), Electricity Authority of Indonesia (PLN), SPG and representatives from private sectors around the world, such as Indonesia Power, Trilliant, Wärtsilä, Shell, Mitsubishi, Siemens, ABB, JERA, and Toyota.

Richard Ireland, CEO, Clarion Events Asia was quoted as saying ‘After three years apart during the Covid-19 pandemic, it was an honour and a privilege to host the Enlit Asia community in Bangkok at Enlit Asia. Nothing beats meeting face-to-face and I would like to thank all our customers for their patience and trust, the speakers, delegates and attendees for their participation, EGAT, the supporting utilities and the Ministry of Energy, Thailand for their continued support and we look forward to the meeting up again shortly.’

More than 350 energy providers and businesses in related industries joined Enlit Asia this year, showcasing their technology advances and modern energy solutions. Plus, thought leadership from leading utility and IPP players provided knowledge, advice, and insights into challenges in the energy industry were also shared and discussed, especially by energy experts who focus on promoting the path to net-zero emission.

During the Power Generation seminar, there were discussions on Effective Maintenance Practices Driving Efficiency Up & OPEX Down which zeroed in on the power sector seeking to reap any advantage available from the ever-increasing list of technologies and strategies that are improving plant optimization. Participants in the seminar included representatives from world-renown organizations such as Shell, IBM, Chevron, the Head of NEFIN Group’s Strategic Investment, and the Senior Vice President from Marubeni Asian Power Singapore. Discussions on Creating Utility 4.0: Harnessing the Power of IoT, AI, ML, the Cloud, and the Importance of Data Management also saw representatives saw EGAT’s Head of Investment Analysis & Development Section and SP PowerGrid’s Director of Smart Grid & Grid Digitalisation as featured speakers who had some unique perspectives to share based on their own experiences in Thailand and Singapore.

Discussion on Unlocking the Role of Hydrogen in the Global Net Zero Future saw participants from ERIA, ABB, Air Liquide Thailand, and the Executive Vice President from Mitsubishi Power. For this session, panelists made sense of hydrogen as the essential next-generation, futuristic solution to a greener future. The panelists also attempted to navigate the topic but suggested practical steps in adopting hydrogen to fast-track the path towards complete decarbonization. Representatives from India Power, Mainstream Renewable Power, the Deputy Director of EVNHCMC, and the Managing Director of TNB Renewables took part in the discussion on Hydrogen & RE Development, where how to accelerate decarbonization initiatives with investments was discussed.

For our partner, Rangel Feranda, the Customer Solutions Director Asia Pacific for Trilliant, shared the event was a great way to get in front of key potential clients.

“As a diamond sponsor, we see a tremendous opportunity in events like Enlit Asia 2022. After two years of being in lockdown in virtual communications only, we were pleased to attend. One of the reasons we are here is because all of our big customers are all here, like TNB, PEA, MEA, Singapore Power, and other utilities,” Rangel said.

Another highlight in Enlit Asia 2022 was the Enlit Asia 2022 Power & Energy Awards where Stanley Huang, Chief Executive Officer of SP Group was awarded Male Executive of the Year and UMBRA’s Senior Partner, Kirana D. Sastrawijaya, received the Female Executive of the Year award.

SETA 2022, SOLAR+STORAGE ASIA 2022, and Enlit Asia 2022 were held on 20-22 September 2022, at Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre: BITEC.
